   Anstruther Golf Course
Auchterderran Auchterderran

Auchterderran is a nine hole parkland course measuring 5122 yards off the white tees.  A Council course that again is in excellent condition.  The course is situated in a former mining village in Cardenden (the birthplace of the famous writer Ian Rankin!)  We played this course on a lovely sunny day and although the course was a little bit soft it was set up well.  The first starts with a par 3 of 175 yards and is played over a burn it is quite featureless and so is the 2nd as you play over the burn again however it then turns into a very demanding course and has a number of great holes.  The 3rd measuring 423 yards is played down over a huge mound and down to the far end of the course.  The 4th you had to lay up short of the hill (or for the big hitters take it up the left over the hill and play for the two markers.  As Alan states in his blog the markers are not in the right place and I agree with him as Stu I aimed for them and missed the green totally after heading right over them.  The 5th hole you had to walk over the 7th and 8th fairways to get to a long par 3 measuring 241 yards.  A slightly blind shot you had to hit over a maker pole to a rather small green.  We thought this hole was tough however the green should be made slightly bigger to make it a bit fairer.  The next was a lovely short par 3 up a hill measuring 100 yards and probably the signature hole (Craig managed to get his two!).  The 7th was a relatively straight forward par 4 and should have been a good opportunity however we both made bogey.  The 8th back down was probably the best laid out hole as you had to lay up short of some gorse before playing to a green that slopes away from the front.  Craig managed to hit a good 6 iron and wedge into four feet to make his second dongo of today.  The last was another short par 4 and good rives saw Craig and Stu make a 4 and 5 respectively.  Score overall saw Craig one over with a 34 scratch and Stu a 41.  In summary a pretty good short nine hole course and even better the starter recognised us from the bunkered magazine and gave us a concession so we would like to thank him for his generosity.
